Army Pledges Support Against Break Down Of Laws , Order During Polls In Rivers

The Nigerian Army in Rivers State has assured the Initiatives for Credible Election; (ICE) that its policy will certainly not be involved in the election but would thrive to ensure that violence and all sorts of election malpractice is eliminated from the state.

The former president of movement for survival Ogoni people (OMSOP), LedumMitee, who led ICE group to visit Major General Musa Yusuf, General officer commanding, GOC, 6 Divisional, Nigerian Army, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, seeks the assurance of neutrality by the military during election.

According to Mitee, during a closed door meeting of ICE held with the Army, explained to GOC that the group as body took the initiative to lead stakeholders’ sensitization on peaceful elections in Rivers State because early warning signals entail that they may experience yet another violent elections come 2019.

Briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt on the outcome of the meeting recently, Mitee assured that,

One of the assurance we got was the commitment to neutrality, that the Army, as a policy, will not get involved in elections.

“He also gave indications that the Army forces have set modality to deal with any infractions among its men if such a situation arises”, he concluded.
